I caught up with Vicki recently to go over a few tips that made her and Keith’s day at their Duthie Park wedding go so well. She has shared a few tips on how to tweak your wedding to be more alternative and even add a bit of rock n roll to it!
Keith and Vicki wanted a relaxed and chilled atmosphere. Their close family and friends during the day then a huge party at night! Centred around everyone dancing to great tunes.
One of many things these guys did was to put pics of great bands and musical legends for their table names. my favourite had to be the jackets tho.
“Keith has always been a big fan of patches and has a denim jacket covered in them. I knew he’d hate having a suit jacket on all day! it’s not his style at all. So as a surprise, I bought us both a denim jacket. I ordered some patches from Etsy of each of our favourite bands. Then spent the nights Keith was working secretly sewing them on. I then got us some rock n roll bride and groom pins from Veronica Dearly to finish them off. Keith was so surprised, as well as all our guests, and so happy to feel more like himself with it on!”
With a few nice touches this was already set to become its own gig.
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with traditional but Vicki opted out of the white dress. Instead she broke the mould choosing a kick ass dress, everything about this dress was cool. She picked it with a little help from the amazing girls at Ivory Grace Bridal. To top it, no rock n roll look would be complete without a pair of converse for grooving around the dance floor later on.
Why not grab some funky wheels and arrive in style in a Volkswagen camper van. Vicki couldn’t of complimented Deeside campers any more for their amazing help from the offset. Making many runs on the Duthie Park wedding day and they even ushered her in with an umbrella to and from the van. I know all too well how accommodating they are, nothing is too much hassle for them, even if I'm getting them to squeeze into the most awkward of places to get that special shot.
Meanwhile with the Stone Roses blasting the boys got ready and awaited the arrival ASC Tuk Tuk. Robert Carmichael of ASC had gone the extra mile for Keith, making them a wee sign to wish them well. He’d also stocked up on some vintage Aberdeen FC programmes for them to look at and relish on the journey. Instead of taking the quickest route possible he went the scenic way allowing the boys to enjoy a cold one.
“We knew we didn't want a huge ceremony, small, intimate and relaxed Duthie Park wedding was our main goal-which we achieved. We had all the people there that we wanted. Come night time all the rest of our friends and family came to party and celebrate. For me, the night time was all about the dancing! I think I spent the whole night dancing!”
Why limit yourself to one band! If you have any friends that play/sing/DJ why not ask them if they want to do a wee set throughout the day. I’m sure they’d love to help.
“The music was definitely a big thing for us, and we were so fortunate to find a great band called Phase 4 who put so much effort in for us. They learned our final dance (Elvis’s Can’t Help Falling in Love) just over a week before our big day. Along with already learning our first dance (Carly Simon, Nobody Does it Better) and some McFly for me!”
“We also had an amazing mini set from the Viper lines. Keith’s brother and a couple of his band mates! It certainly got everyone up on the floor during the buffet time! It was so special having him do that for us! The next day one of my cousin’s said it was the best music at a wedding she’s ever been to.”
I’ll add at this point that Keith doing his Elvis impression for the last dance was beyond epic!
Inspiration came from everywhere! Pintrest was a big influence! Following blogs like Rock n Roll Bride, Whimsical Weddings and the Scottish Wedding Magazine. They all gave me little ideas for what I wanted.
